Barra fishing charters is run by Donald B MacLeod, who is a career fisherman and has spent most of his working career in charge of his own fishing trawler, even though he has taken part in most fishing types. The vessel used is a Lochin 33 Sports Fisherman named the BOY JAMES, built in 1986 and a length of 10.06m. The vessel is powered by 2 x 185 hp inboard Perkins 6.3544, which gives a cruising speed of 15kts. A very large range of fishing equipment is provided free of charge including the rods and tackle which are of a high standard and specially designed for sea angling.

A Semi-rigid inflatable dinghy with a 40hp Yamaha outboard is used for ferrying passengers ashore at neighbouring islands. When on board the dinghy passengers will have to wear inflatable life-vests provided by us.

A convenient pick up service from various parts of the island and from the neighbouring islands of Eriskay and South Uist is also provided.

Waterproof oilskins will be provided free of charge if required (hopefully not!).

Refreshments are provided on board the vessel again free of charge.
